About the analysis board

Xiangqi analysis board with a built-in engine

Set up a position or replay a game, and let the engine show you the best moves: Pikafish, the standard engine for xiangqi. On a computer, everything runs in your browser: free, with nothing to install and no account to create.

What you can do on the board

  • See the engine's best lines

Pikafish shows its three best continuations with their evaluation, searching to a depth of 22, and the bar beside the board shows who stands better. Turn on the arrow to see the best move drawn on the board.

  • Explore variations

Play a different move anywhere in the game and a variation opens beside the main line instead of replacing it. The tree of variations shows where each line branches off; you can promote, collapse or delete a variation.

  • Set up any position

Place the pieces yourself, choose the side to move or paste a FEN. The editor checks the position before the engine sees it: both generals on the board, and not facing each other on an open file.

  • Import and export games

Paste a game in FEN, PGN, WXF, ICCS, UCI or Chinese notation: the format is recognized automatically, and a PGN keeps its variations. Export the line you are on in any of these formats, or download it as a file.

  • Annotate your analysis

Mark moves with !, ?, !!, ??, !? or ?!, write a comment on any move, and draw arrows and circles on the board to keep track of your plans.

  • Share it with a link

The page address holds the position, every move and every variation. Share the link and it reopens on the move you were looking at (comments, symbols and drawings are not included).

Pikafish, running on your own device

Pikafish is the open-source engine that has become the standard for xiangqi, built on the same foundations as Stockfish in chess. Here it is compiled to WebAssembly and runs inside your browser, on your own processor: no server does the thinking for you. When the page opens, the analysis of the starting position is already there, computed in advance; the engine itself starts with your first move, or at once on a shared position. The first time, your browser downloads Pikafish and its neural network, about 50 MB, and keeps them for your next visits.

Review your own games

After a game on Xiangqi One, open it from your game history for a full review: an accuracy score for each side, a grade for every move and the evaluation graph of the whole game. Once you're signed in, the Review tab does the same for the main line of anything you analyze on this board. The review runs on our servers and needs a free account; the analysis board does not.

On your phone

On a phone or a tablet, the analysis board lives in the Xiangqi One app for iOS and Android: Pikafish runs natively on the device, with the same variations, position editor and game reviews. The app is free.
